    Overview

    The Class A 2nd Shift Company Driver (LTL/FTL Truck Driver) is a critical frontline role within UNIS Transportation’s regional and national logistics network. Operating primarily from Buena Park, CA, this position ensures that non-hazardous freight moves reliably between customers and UNIS terminals during the high-demand afternoon and evening window (2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.). The driver directly impacts on-time performance, service quality, and safety metrics, which in turn influence customer retention, network efficiency, and overall profitability. This role collaborates closely with dispatch, terminal operations, customer service, and safety/compliance teams, acting as the physical link between operational planning and real-world delivery execution. Success in this role requires not only technical driving competence but also professional maturity, consistent judgment under time pressure, and adherence to DOT regulations and company standards. The Class A Driver represents UNIS on the road and at customer sites, embodying the company’s commitment to safety, quality, service, and efficiency while supporting a fast-growing LTL and FTL division.

    Key Responsibilities

    • 1. Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles (automatic and manual) on assigned LTL and FTL routes during 2nd shift, ensuring compliance with all DOT regulations, UNIS safety policies, and local traffic laws while transporting non-hazardous freight between terminals and customer locations.
    • 2. Execute scheduled pickups and deliveries with high time discipline, maintaining on-time performance, accurately following dispatch instructions, and promptly communicating any delays, incidents, or route deviations to dispatch and operations teams.
    • 3. Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections, properly document findings, and coordinate any maintenance or repairs required to keep equipment in safe, reliable operating condition, minimizing unplanned downtime.
    • 4. Manage freight handling tasks, including verifying load counts and documentation, securing loads, protecting product quality, and ensuring proper use of equipment and resources to prevent damage, loss, or safety incidents.
    • 5. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant records, such as electronic logs, bills of lading, delivery receipts, and inspection reports, and represent UNIS professionally at all customer and terminal touchpoints, contributing to positive customer experience and strong working relationships.

    $29 per hour

    Requirements

    • 1. Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean and acceptable DOT/Safety driving record, free of DUI convictions or major driving violations, and the ability to operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
    • 2. Minimum of 2 years verifiable professional experience as a Class A CDL driver, demonstrating consistent adherence to safety standards, reliable attendance, and competent operation of commercial vehicles in LTL and/or FTL environments.
    • 3. Current DOT Medical card and the ability to meet or exceed all medical standards established by the U.S. Department of Transportation, including the successful completion of required physical examinations.
    • 4. Ability and willingness to work a full-time 2nd shift schedule (Monday through Friday, approximately 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.), with sufficient flexibility to adjust to operational needs while maintaining compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
    • 5. Successful completion of pre-employment screening processes, including drug and alcohol testing, background checks, and verification of employment history and references, in line with company and regulatory requirements.
    • 6. Demonstrated working knowledge of DOT regulations related to safe driving, hours of service, vehicle inspection, and maintenance, and the ability to apply these regulations consistently in daily operations.

    4. Operational communication: Clear, timely, and professional communication with dispatchers, terminal staff, and customers, including reporting issues, confirming instructions, and documenting key events to support smooth coordination of freight movement.
    5. Documentation and attention to detail: Accurate completion and management of ELD entries, bills of lading, delivery receipts, inspection reports, and other required records, ensuring compliance, traceability, and data integrity for operational and audit purposes.
